The English Majors Admission List for Anda University in 2024!
Hi everyone! My name is Lily and I'm a 5th grader who LOVES English. I've been studying it really hard since kindergarten because I want to become an amazing English teacher when I grow up. My dream is to teach at the best university for English in the whole country - Anda University!
Anda is super famous for their English program. All the professors are from English-speaking countries and the classes are taught entirely in English. The students have to be totally fluent by the time they graduate. It's really, really hard to get in though. Thousands of students apply each year but they only accept around 200 new English majors.
Well, a few days ago the rumor started going around that Anda was going to release their preliminary admission list for 2024 early! My older sister Amy is a senior in high school this year and applying to Anda to study English. She's been sooo nervous waiting to find out if she got in. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her!
When I got home from school on Monday, Amy was slouching at the kitchen table looking all gloomy. I could tell something was wrong. "What's the matter Amy?" I asked. She looked up with a frown.
"The preliminary Anda admission list for 2024 came out today," she said sadly. "I didn't make it."
My heart sank. I know how much Amy has been dreaming of going to Anda since she was little like me. She's studied English harder than anyone I know. I ran over and gave her a big hug.
"I'm so sorry Amy," I said, trying not to cry myself. "I know you wanted this so bad. But maybe there's still a chance? Don't they have a final list later on that's different?"
Amy nodded. "Yeah, this is just the first round though. They'll update the final list in a few months after looking at everything again. But it's really hard to get in if you're not on the early list." She sighed heavily. "I guess my English skills just aren't good enough for Anda's program."
sort of my superpower Now I was really sad for my sister. Amy is a straight-A student and literally the best English speaker I know, including adults! She's helped me study English since I was a tiny kid. If SHE couldn't make

The 2024 List for An University's Super Cool Translation Program!
Hi everyone! My name is Lily and I'm a 5th grader who really really loves languages. I've been studying English since I was just a little kid and I'm getting pretty good at it. I can watch movies and read books in English without any problems at all!
My dream is to become a famous translator when I grow up so I can help bring awesome
books, movies, video games, and TV shows from English to Chinese. That way, all my friends and family can enjoy the same cool stuff I love! I've heard the English translation program at An University is simply the best in the whole country.
Every year, they release a list of the smartest students who did the best on the big entrance exam. Those students get to enroll in the program and study really hard for four years to become professional translators. I'm going to work my tail off over the next few years so I can get on that list for 2024! Wish me luck, okay?
Auntie Ming told me I should study the names on the list to get an idea of who the top students are. She said it's never too early to start making connections and learning from the best. I did some investigating and here are my notes on the kids who made it this year:
Zhao Meilin - Wow, this girl is like a English genius or something! She got a perfect score on the written translation section, which is basically impossible. I heard she has already published English novels that she translated herself. She's only 17 but speaks like 5 languages already. I'm a little intimidated but also really inspired by how smart and hardwor
king she must be. Maybe if I study enough I can be just like her someday!
Wu Chengfeng - This guy actually grew up in America before moving back to China. So it's not too surprising his English is flawless. From what I read, he's an incredible public speaker and won a bunch of national competitions for interpretation and debate. He's basically a celebrity on translation forums and blogs. I'd love to meet him and get some tips on how he got so good at speaking in English without an accent. Seems like such a nice, funny dude too.
Lin Anqi - She's only 16 like me but already published her own English literary magazine! How cool is that?? It showcases works by teenager writers, poets and translators from all across Asia. I sent in a couple of my English short stories but they weren't quite good enough to make the cut. Hopefully after a few more years of practice my writing skills will be as amazing as Lin Anqi's. I could really learn a ton from her about building a career around languages from such a young age.
