    The Ghostly Fun of Fengdu Ghost City
    Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm going to tell you all about this super cool place called Fengdu Ghost City that I visited recently with my family. It's located along the Yangtze River in Chongqing, China and it's all about ghosts and the afterlife - how crazy is that?
    Well, it turns out Chinese people have been believing in ghosts and the spirit world for like, forever. Fengdu used to be known as the "City of Ghosts" because people thought it was where the gates to the underworld were located. Pretty spooky, right?
    Even though it's all made up, the Ghost City has turned into this giant theme park all about death and the afterlife according to Chinese mythology and culture. My parents wanted to tak
e me there to learn about the traditions, but I was really excited because I thought it would be filled with ghosts and goblins and all kinds of crazy haunted stuff!
    The first area we went to after the entrance was called the Ghost Torturing Pass. I know, I know, the name doesn't exactly make you want to rush over there. But it's actually where you get to see all these statues and displays about the different punishments that bad people supposedly face in the underworld after they die.
    There were these crazy statue guys with long tongues sticking out, and others being crushed or stabbed with swords and spears. My little brother got a little freaked out, but I thought the statues looked awesome, even if what they depicted was pretty gruesome. I tried sticking my tongue out as far as one of the statues and my dad got a hilarious picture!
    After the Torturing area, we walked into the Ten Courts of Hell. This was my favorite part because it was like being in a haunted house, but learning about Chinese mythology at the same time. Each court had displays showing the different levels of hell that people's souls supposedly get sent to after dying, based on how bad or good they were when alive.
    In the First Court, there were views of souls being judged and sent to other levels. The Third Court showed people having to climb over super sharp blade-covered walls and floors. Not something I'd want to attempt! The scariest one might have been the Sixth Court where souls get thrown into a burning cauldron and boiled alive. I don't even want to think about what that would feel like!
    Even though it was all just artworks and models, some of the scenes really gave me the creeps. The area was dimly lit with an eerie green glow, and they pumped in sounds of moaning ghosts and spirits crying out. A couple times I grabbed my mom's hand because I thought a ghost might actually pop out at me!
    After making it through all Ten Courts, we could finally take a break with some fun activities and rides. They had a Mirror Maze that was designed to look like fiery pits of lava and hell, with spooky music blasting. It took us forever to find our way out!
    There was also something called a Revolving Hollow Slide where you slide down a super tall curly slide surrounded by images of ghosts and goblins. I must have gone on that
one ten times because it was such a rush! My dad said he felt like a pretzel after doing it a couple times though.
    Other than the rides, Fengdu had restaurants where you could eat foods that are traditionally left for spirits during annual grave cleaning festivals. We tried some really yummy sticky rice balls and fried dough twists that are supposed to be offerings for wandering ghosts. I'll definitely be asking my grandma to make some next time we visit her!
    I'd definitely recommend a visit to Fengdu Ghost City if you're ever in the Chongqing area and want to experience Chinese mythology and the underworld in a really fun and interactive way. Just be prepared - it might seem more frightening than Disneyland if you don't like ghosts and gore!
