    Using the Present Progressive Tense
Hi there! I'm learning about the present progressive tense in English class and I'm going to tell you all about it. The present progressive is really cool and useful for describing actions happening right now.
    What is the Present Progressive?
The present progressive tense shows that an action is happening at the moment of speaking. It's formed with the verb "to be" (am, is, are) plus the present participle (-ing word). For example:
    I am walking to school.
    She is eating her lunch.
    They are playing football.
    Using "Is" and "Are"
You use "is" with singular subjects like "he", "she", "it":
    He is reading a book.
    The cat is sleeping.
And you use "are" with plural subjects:
    The boys are running.
    We are studying English.
    The -ing Words
To make the present participle, you usually add "-ing" to the verb:
    walk → walking
    read → reading
    jump → jumping
Sometimes you need to make a spelling change first:
If the verb ends in -e, just add -ing:
    make → making
    write → writing
If it ends in consonant + vowel + consonant, double the last consonant:
    run → running
    sit → sitting
And some verbs are just irregular:
    go → going
    see → seeing
    Describing Right Now
The present progressive is perfect for talking about what's going on right this second. Like if your mom calls and asks what you're doing, you can say:
    I'm doing my homework.
I'm not watching TV. I'm reading a book.
Or at recess, you might say:
Johnny is picking his nose again! Gross!
    Temporary Actions
We use this tense for temporary actions happening around now, but not lasting forever. T
hings that are sort of in progress:
My family is staying at a hotel this weekend.
I'm learning how to speak French.
    But you wouldn't say:
*I'm being 8 years old. (That's a permanent state, not a temporary action)
    Annoying Habits
The present progressive is great for describing annoying habits or recurring actions too:
He's always leaving his dirty socks on the floor!
The neighbors are constantly slamming their door.
You get the idea - things that happen over and over can use this tense.
    Scheduled Events
We can also use the present progressive for scheduled future events or plans:
The concert is starting at 8 pm tonight.
We're going to Disneyland next month!
So those are the main ways to use the present progressive tense in English. Keep practicing, and describing what's happening right now will get easier and easier.
    Let's try some examples together:
What is your teacher doing right now?
    [Allow response]
Good! Now give me a sentence about what you are doing after school today.
    [Allow response]
Nice work! How about this - what are your parents doing this weekend?
    [Allow response]
You've got it! The present progressive lets you talk about sooo many things happening in the present moment. Just remember that -ing word and you're all set.
Thanks for learning with me today! Let's keep working on using that present progressive like grammar champions.

    Using the Present Tense
Hi there! My name is Sammy and I'm a 4th grader. Today, I want to tell you all about using the present tense in English. The present tense is super important because it helps us talk about what's happening right now. Let me explain how it works!
    The Simple Present
First up, we have the simple present tense. We use this for things that happen regularly
or are generally true. For example, I wake up at 7am every morning for school. My mom makes me breakfast. I really like pancakes with syrup!
To form the simple present with most subjects, we just use the base form of the verb:
    I walk to school.
You brush your teeth.sort of club
    They play soccer after class.
For he, she, and it, we add -s or -es to the end of the verb:
    He kicks the ball.
    She watches TV.
It rains a lot here in the spring.
Some very common verbs are a bit irregular in simple present, like:
I have English class on Mondays.
You do your homework after dinner.
He goes to soccer practice three times a week.
We often use the simple present to talk about habits, routines, facts, and things that are generally true:
