    My English Exam Experience
    Whew, I just finished the English exam for the second semester and I'm totally wiped out! I think I did okay overall, but there were definitely some really tough parts that had me stumped. Let me tell you all about it.
    The exam was split into different sections - reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, writing, and listening. We had to do the listening part first since the audio was played over the loudspeakers. That's always the section I dread the most! There were conversations between people as well as lectures and we had to answer multiple choice questions based on what we heard. Some of the accents were really strong this time which made it extra challenging to understand everything. I probably got a bunch of those wrong.
    Next up was the reading comprehension portion. We had to read a few different passages and answer questions related to the main ideas, details, inferences, and vocabulary in context. One passage was about the history of robotics which was kind of interesting but also really dense and full of technical terms I wasn't familiar with. Another was some sort of persuasive essay about environmental protection which I zoned out on to be honest. But the fictional story about a girl and her magical adventures was fun to read! The questions ranged from pretty straightforward to needing a total re-read of certain paragraphs. My comprehension skills aren't the best so this part was tough.
    The grammar section was next which is usually one of my stronger areas. We had to identify errors in sentences, re-write incorrect sentences, and fill in blanks with the proper tense or part of speech. There were some tricky questions about advanced grammar rules that I'm pretty sure I bombed. But the basics like subject-verb agreement and proper use of articles, pronouns, etc. I felt solid on.
    Vocabulary wasn't too bad since we've been drilling those words all semester long. We h
ad to define words based on context clues and root words, use them properly in sentences, and identify synonyms/antonyms. There were a handful of curveball words I'd never seen before, but overall that part went smoothly.
    Finally, the writing section - always the big finale! We had to write a descriptive essay about a place we've visited before including rich details to help the reader visualize it. I decided to write about a beach trip I took with my family a few years ago. Making sure I had a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion was key. I tried to incorporate lots of descriptive adjectives, figurative language, and sensory details about the sights, sounds, and smells. Hopefully I developed my ideas well and varied my sentence structures effectively. Writing has been one of my biggest struggles in English so I have no idea how I did on that part.
    Phew, just recounting everything is making me exhausted all over again! The exam was no joke and covered so many different skills over the course of a few hours. I gave it my absolute best effort but I honestly have no clue what my final score will be. I'll just have to wait anxiously for the results like always. Wish me luck!

    The Dreaded Monthly English Exam
    Oh no, it's that time of the month again - the monthly English exam at Xia Gang Middle School! I absolutely dread these tests. Don't get me wrong, I actually really enjoy learning English. It's a super cool language and I dream of traveling to English-speaking countries one day. But these exams are just the worst!
    First of all, they are always so looooong. Like, why do we need to answer a bazillion questions? Can't they just ask us a few things to see if we understand or not? By the time I get to the last page, my hand is cramping up from writing so much. It's torture!
    Then there are the types of questions they ask. Sure, some are okay - defining vocabulary words, filling in blanks, simple stuff like that. But then they throw in those tricky grammar questions that make my head spin. Hey teachers, maybe go easy on the confusing tenses and cases? I'm still just a kid learning this language!
    Don't even get me started on the reading comprehension section. Why do all the passages have to be about things kids definitely don't care about? One time there was a crazy long article about the history of making cloth. Snooze fest! How about giving us fun stories about video games or our favorite TV shows? That would be way more engaging.
    I get especially nervous about the writing portion. We're supposed to write a whole essay in English from start to finish. Talk about pressure! My parents are always nagging me about using proper grammar, varied vocabulary, clear organization, and all that. No matter how hard I try, they always find a million things to critique when I'm done. Makes me want to pull my hair out!
