The Shapes That Make a House
Hi, my name is Jamie and I'm going to tell you all about the different shapes that are used to build houses! Houses come in lots of shapes and sizes, but they are really made up of a bunch of smaller, basic shapes put together. Once you start looking, you'll see these shapes everywhere in the

My House is Made of Shapes
Have you ever looked really closely at the buildings around you? If you take a good look, you'll see that they are made up of all kinds of different shapes! My house is no exception - it'
s a whole bunch of shapes put together. Let me tell you about some of the main shapes that make up my house.
The biggest shape in my house is the rectangle. The main part of the house itself is a big rectangle. When you look at the front of the house, you can see it's just a giant rectangle shape. And the back and sides are rectangles too. Even the roof is sort of a rectangle when you look at it from the front or back.
Inside, a lot of the rooms are rectangles as well. My bedroom is a rectangle. The living room is a big rectangle. The kitchen is a long skinny rectangle. Rectangles are everywhere!
Another important shape in my house is the square. The windows are all square shapes. When I look out the window, I'm looking through a square! The doors in the house are square shapes too. Even some of the rooms have square shapes, like the bathroom. Squares are so common and useful for houses.
Triangles show up in some important places too. The roof is made up of two big triangles
sort of house翻译that come together at the top. I remember learning that triangle roofs like that are called gables. The windows on the top floor have little triangles on them too. And the door has a triangle shape at the very top. Triangles are really strong shapes, so they work great for roofs and supports.
Circles aren't as common in my house, but there are a few places you can find them. The windows have round circle shapes at the top that let in light. And the front door has a round window too with a circle shape. Some decorations and furniture have circles as well, like the round clock and the circular mirror in the hallway.
Combining all those shapes together is what makes the full design of a house. The big rectangular base, with triangular roofs on top, square windows and doors all over, and a few circles here and there. It's like a big shape playground! Every time I walk through my house, I can point out all the different shapes that make it up. Rectangles, squares, triangles, and circles - putting them all together is how you build a house.
There are so many other little shapes around the house too. Arches, ovals, diamonds, an
d more. Like I said, houses are really just a bunch of shapes combined together in a special way. It's almost like the houses were built out of giant Shape-Os or Lincoln Logs! Once you start looking for them, you'll see shapes everywhere in the design.
Shapes are so important for building houses, but they're important for lots of other things too. When I'm drawing a picture, using different shapes helps me create anything I can imagine. I use squares and rectangles for buildings, triangles for roofs and trees, circles for wheels or the sun. Knowing how to put shapes together is a superpower for drawing and creating!
In math class, we've started learning about geometry and all the properties of shapes. Squares have four equal sides. Rectangles have four sides with two longer ones. Triangles have three sides and three angles. Circles don't have any sides or angles at all. Studying shapes helps me understand so much about the world around me.
I've also been learning that shapes can transform into other shapes too. If you cut certain corners off a rectangle, it becomes other polygons like pentagons or hexagons. You
can put shapes together to make new shapes, like putting two triangles together to make a square. Shapes can rotate, resize, and rearrange in limitless ways. It's like the building blocks of everything!
Looking at my house and seeing all the rectangles, squares, triangles and circles that create it has helped me appreciate shapes so much more. Before I just thought they were boring things we learned about in math. But now I understand how unbelievably important and useful they are. Shapes are everywhere - in buildings, vehicles, machines, toys, furniture, art and so much more. The entire constructed world is made up of combined shapes!
The next time you're walking around your neighborhood, take a close look at the houses and other buildings around you. See if you can identify all the different shapes that make them up. What shapes do you notice the most? Rectangles? Triangles? Squares? Look at the roofs, the windows, the doors, and all the different components. You'll quickly realize that shapes are the secret building blocks that make up our homes and structures.
