My Big Decision
Hi there! My name is Timmy and I'm in 5th grade. I'm already starting to think about what I want to study when I go to college. It's a really big decision and I'm not sure what to pick yet. I know I have a few more years before I actually have to decide, but I can't stop thinking about it!
A lot of the other kids in my class say they want to be doctors, lawyers, pro athletes, or astronauts when they grow up. Those all sound like really cool jobs. But I'm just not sure if any of those paths are right for me. I'm trying to think about what my biggest interests and strengths are to help me figure it out.
One idea I've been considering is studying English and preparing for the English Language Proficiency Test Band 4. I know that might sound like a strange choice for a kid, but hear me out! English is one of my favorite subjects in school. I really enjoy reading stories, poetry, and novels. Writing creative stories and essays is also something I'm pretty good at.
My parents always tell me that I have a great imagination and a real gift for putting my thoughts into words. I've won a few writing contests at school already. Maybe I could work on developing those skills even more by studying English in college? Then I could potentially have a career someday as an author, journalist, poet, teacher, or something else related to writing and language.
I'm also a bit of a I know, super dorky! But I think it's really fascinating how languages evolved over time and how they connect different cultures around the world. The English Language Proficiency Test Band 4 from what I understand tests advanced English reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities. Preparing for that and potentially scoring well could open up even more opportunities for me internationally.
Another part of me wonders if I should look at more practical majors though. My dad is an accountant and he's mentioned that I have a knack for math and numbers. Maybe I'd make a great accountant, statistician, financial analyst or something along those lines? Those jobs can pay really well. But I'm just not sure if I'd truly find that stuff interesting and fulfilling enough. I think I'd get bored only dealing with numbers and spreadsheets all day.
There's also a big part of me that wants to work in a job that could help make the world a better place somehow. Like maybe environmental science so I could work on solving climate change? Or political science so I could try to improve people's lives through government and public policy? Those both seem really important, but I'm just not confident that I'm quite passionate enough yet about either of those specific fields.
My parents keep telling me that it's okay if I don't have it all figured out yet. They remind me that I can change my mind about my major once or twice when I get to college too if I need to. My dad switched from business to history after his first year! So maybe I shouldn't put too much pressure on myself to pick the perfect path just yet.
For now, I think I'm leaning towards focusing on English literature and language. It's something I'm naturally skilled at and interested in. But I'll definitely keep an open mind and continue exploring my options as I get older. If any adults are reading this, I'd love to hear your perspective! What did you study? How did you pick your major or career path? Any advice for an indecisive kid just starting to think about this huge life decision? Whatever I end up doing, I just want it to be something I'm excited about every day. Wish me luck!

Picking My Path After Elementary School
Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm in the last year of elementary school. I have a reeeeeally big decision to make soon about what I want to do next. Do I go to a normal university and study whatever I want? Or do I go to a special English university and get super good at English? It's a tough choice!
My parents keep bugging me about it because they say it's a decision that will affect my
whole life. I get why they're stressing about it so much. If I pick wrong, I could end up being really unhappy and having to change paths later which would be a total bummer. So I've been thinking about it a lot.
First, let me tell you about the normal university option. Basically, I could go to a university and study anything - math, science, art, history, whatever I'm into. The good thing is I'd get to learn about my favorite subjects in-depth. I really love art
