The Biggest Mess I Ever Made
You probably think that going to college is all about studying really hard, going to lots of classes, and learning super difficult things. Well, you're right - that's a huge part of it. But sometimes, the most memorable events at university have nothing to do with academics at all! Let me tell you about the biggest mess I ever made during my first year.
It was a bright Saturday morning, and I was feeling lazy after staying up late playing video games the night before. My roommate Josh had already left to visit his parents for the weekend, so I had our whole dorm room to myself. I was lying on my bed, scrolling through messages on my phone when my stomach started grumbling. Man, I was really hungry!
I looked over at the little microwave we had in the corner. Hmm, I thought, maybe I'll make one of those microwavable breakfast sandwiches. Those are pretty tasty and easy to make. So I got out of bed, found the last sandwich in the freezer, and popped it into the microwave. After punching in the cook time, I went back to relaxing on my bed while it cooked.
A few minutes later, I could definitely quite right. Like a burning sort of smell. I leapt up just as the microwave started beeping loudly. I swung open the door and - oh no! Thick black smoke poured out into the room. I grabbed the sandwich which was genuinely on fire and threw it into the sink, flames and all! Coughing from the smoke, I rushed to open the windows as wide as possible.
At that moment, the hallway smoke alarm started blaring loudly. I knew I was in big trouble. Within just a few minutes, students were evacuating the whole building while the fire trucks arrived with sirens blaring. Two firefighters in full gear even burst into our room, though the small fire was already out by then. I had some explaining to do!
It turns out I had accidentally set the microwave for 20 minutes instead of 2 minutes. By the time the smoke detectors went off, my "breakfast" was nothing but a charred black crispy disk. I felt absolutely mortified as I told the fire chief what happened while the other students watched and laughed. At least no one was hurt and there was no real fire damage, but I still got a minor citation from the campus police for misuse of appliances and disrupting campus safety. The fees weren't too bad, but I'll never live down the embarrassment.
Mom and Dad thought the whole situation was hilarious when I called to tell them. Josh, my roommate, was less amused when he got back and our room reeked of smoke for weeks. If you ask me, that's the day I learned a very important real-world skill - how to properly use a microwave! Looking back now, I can laugh about being the girl who practically burned down the dorm over a frozen sandwich. But you'd better believe I never made that mistake again.
College is full of valuable learning experiences, both inside the classroom and out. Sure,
there's studying and lectures and tons of reading. But some of the most memorable lessons don't come from a book or a professor at all. They come from silly situations, mishaps, and stories you'll be telling for the rest of your life. Like the time I filled the whole building with burnt sandwich smoke and became known as the girl who almost failed Microwaving 101. What can I say? At least I aced that course by the end of freshmen year!

The Most Memorable Thing in College
Wow, college was super duper fun! I had so many amazing experiences there that I'll never forget. But if I had to pick just one thing that left the biggest impression on me, it would definitely be the time I got to be a part of the big science fair!
It all started when my professor, Dr. Smith, announced in class that there was going to be a huge science fair at the end of the semester. He said we could work in teams or by ourselves, and we had to come up with a really cool experiment or project to present. I was SO excited because science is my absolute favorite subject ever!
At first, I wasn't sure if I wanted to work alone or find some friends to be on a team with me. But then I remembered how much I loved doing the volcano project back in third grade, and I decided that I wanted to do something all by myself this time. I spent weeks and weeks thinking about what kind of experiment I could do.
Finally, I had the most brilliant idea ever! I decided that I was going to try and find a way to make plants grow bigger and healthier without using any special chemicals or fertilizers. I loved the idea of finding a natural way to help plants flourish.
I started doing tons of research, reading all kinds of books and websites about different plant growth methods. I learned about things like hydroponics, aeroponics, and even tried out some crazy techniques like playing music for the plants and talking to them every day. It was SO much fun!
After months of hard work and experimenting, I finally felt ready to put together my project for the science fair. I grew all sorts of different plants using special soil mixtures, lighting setups, and watering schedules that I had developed. I had tomato plants, roses, e
ven a little lemon tree!
