    My Fourth Grade Year
Hi there! My name is Jamie and I just finished the fourth grade. It was such an exciting year and I learned so many new things in English class. Our teacher, Mrs. Roberts, taught us all kinds of cool stuff from the first module in our English textbooks. Let me tell you all about it!
At the start of the year, we kicked things off by learning about different jobs and occupations that people have. It was really interesting finding out what all the grownups in our lives do for work. I found out my dad is a mechanic, which means he fixes cars and trucks all day. My mom is a nurse at the hospital, helping take care of people when they're sick or hurt.
We learned lots of vocabulary words related to jobs too. I can still remember some of them like doctor, teacher, police officer, chef, and firefighter. In class, we'd go around saying what we wanted to be when we grew up. I changed my mind about a million times between being an astronaut, a racecar driver, and a zookeeper!
The next unit was all about feelings and emotions. This was kind of tricky because feelings can be hard to describe sometimes. But we learned words like happy, sad, angry, surprised, and scared. We talked about what kinds of things or situations make us feel certain ways. Like if I get a bad grade on a test, that makes me feel disappointed. Or if my brother takes my toy without asking, I'll probably feel mad. But then if I get invited to a birthday party, I'm super excited and happy!
For that unit on feelings, we had to do a writing assignment about a time we felt really strong emotions. I wrote about when I fell off the monkey bars during recess and broke my arm. I was SO scared and crying so hard because it really hurt a lot. But the doctors and nurses at the hospital helped me feel better and put my arm in a cast. Now I have a pretty cool scar!
After that, we spent a few weeks learning about wild animals and where they live. We watched videos about lions, tigers, bears, and elephants roaming in different habitats like the jungle, savannah, and forest. It was amazing seeing how different animals have adapted to survive in their environments. Like how polar bears have thick fur coats to stay warm in the arctic, or how giraffes have long necks to reach leaves high up in trees. We got to go on a field trip to the zoo too and see some of those animals in real life!

My favorite unit was definitely the one on food, recipes, and cooking. We learned the names of all kinds of fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products, and more. We talked about healthy eating, the food pyramid, and why it's important to have a balanced diet. The best part was when we actually got to make some recipes in the classroom! We made little English muffin pizzas, veggie skewers with ranch dip, and these yummy no-bake oatmeal cookies. I still remember the recipe for those! You just mix together oatmeal, peanut butter, honey, and chocolate chips. So simple but delicious.
Towards the end of the year, we circled back to talking about people, families, and relatio
nships. We learned fun vocabulary like uncle, aunt, cousin, grandma, and grandpa. Everybody got to present about their families and share photos too. I have a pretty big family so it took me a while to go through introducing everybody! We also talked about what makes a good friend and how to be a good friend to others.
Finally, we wrapped up the module learning about holidays and cultural celebrations from around the world. I loved finding out about cool traditions from other countries that I'd never heard of before. Like this thing called Diwali, which is a really bright and colorful festival of lights celebrated in India. Or Las Posadas from Mexico, where people go from house to house reenacting Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem. My favorite was probably Chinese New Year though because it involves lots of good luck traditions, red envelopes with money, firecrackers, and eating long noodles for a long life.
Whew, I'm getting tired just thinking about everything we crammed into this past year! Fourth grade was a bit challenging at times, but I worked really hard and learned so much, especially in English class. Those first few modules in our textbooks helped me build such
a strong base with my vocabulary, writing, reading, and conversational skills. I feel totally prepared now to take on fifth grade next year. Until then, I'm just going to relax, have fun, and enjoy my summer vacation!

    My Awesome Summer Vacation
Summer vacation is the best time of the year! No more waking up super early or having to rush to catch the school bus. Instead, I got to sleep in late and just relax and have fun. This summer was so awesome and I did all sorts of fun activities. Let me tell you about it!
First up was my family's big trip to the beach! We loaded up the car with snacks, beach toys, towels, and sunscreen and headed down to the coast. The drive took forever but it was worth it when we finally arrived. I could smell the salty ocean air and feel the warm sun on my face. We found the perfect spot on the beach to set up our umbrellas and blankets.
