    Dear Lily,
How are you doing? I hope you're having a great summer vacation so far! Things have been really fun and exciting over here. Let me tell you all about the adventures I've been up to.
A few weeks ago, my family and I went on a camping trip to the mountains. We packed up our tent, sleeping bags, and lots of snacks, and drove for what felt like forever! When we finally arrived at the campsite, I was amazed by how beautiful everything was. The trees were so tall and green, the air was fresh and cool, and you could hear birds chirping all around.
Setting up our tent was a bit tricky at first, but Dad showed me how to put the poles together and stake it into the ground. Once it was all set up, it felt like our own little portable house in the middle of nature! That night, we built a campfire and roasted marshmallows. The stars looked incredible without any city lights around. I've never seen so many!
The next day, we went on a long hike through the forest. The trail was kind of steep at times, but the views were breathtaking. We stopped for a picnic lunch beside a gorgeous waterfall. I got to dip my toes in the cold, crystal clear water. It was so refreshing! On the way back, we spotted a family of deer grazing just off the trail. They were SO cute!
In the evenings, we would play card games and tell spooky stories around the campfire. A few times, I thought I heard strange noises outside the tent at night. My heart was pounding, thinking maybe it was a bear! But it was probably just my imagination getting the better of me. Before going to bed each night, we would roast s'mores and stargaze for a while. I tried my best to find constellations, but besides the Big Dipper, I'm not very good at it yet.
After four nights of camping, it was finally time to pack up and head back home. I was honestly a little sad to leave behind the peace and beauty of the great outdoors. But I also missed having a real bed and bathroom! On the drive back, I could hardly keep my eyes open. I was so exhausted from all the fresh air and physical activity. I ended up conking out for most of the ride.
When we got home, everything felt kind of boring and suburban after our outdoor adventure. But then I remembered – only a couple more weeks until school starts back up again! I'm really excited to see all my friends again and learn new things. Fourth grade is going to be so much fun. I just hope we get to go on more awesome field trips this year!
That's about all my news for now. I can't wait to hear what you've been up to this summer as well. Are you going to go on any fun trips before school begins? Maybe our families could meet up at the park or pool sometime soon. It would be great to see you!

    Dear Lily,
How are you doing? I hope you're having a great summer so far! I wanted to write you a nice long letter to tell you all about the fun and exciting things I've been up to since school let out. Get ready, because I have a lot to share!
First of all, did I tell you that my family got a new puppy? His name is Muffin and he's the cutest, fluffiest little golden retriever you've ever seen! We picked him up from the animal shelter a couple weeks ago. At first, he was pretty shy and would hide under the kitchen table whenever anyone came near him. But now he's really opened up and is just a big bundle of energy!
He loves to play fetch and will run around the backyard chasing after tennis balls until he's completely tuckered out. Then he'll plop down on the grass and take a little puppy nap
right there in the sunshine. I have to be careful though because if I try to sneak up on him while he's sleeping, he'll startle awake and start licking my face like crazy! His breath is pretty stinky but I don't even care. Muffin is just the sweetest pup.
Anyway, you'll never believe what happened last week. My big brother Jake and I were out playing catch in the front yard when all of a sudden, a huge moving truck pulled up across the street. We watched as the movers started unloading all this furniture and boxes from the truck. And you know who our new neighbors turned out to be? The Hendersons! Michael and Samantha from our class at school!
I was so excited, I could barely contain myself. Jake and I ran right over to say hi as soon as they pulled into the driveway. Michael looked just as surprised to see us as we were to see them. His little sister Samantha started jumping up and down - she was really happy to have some friends living so close by. I still can't believe how lucky we got to have our buddies from school move in right across the street!
