    My Awesome Summer Vacation
Yay, summer vacation was here at last! No more school for a whole three months. I was so excited I could barely sit still on the bus ride home from school on the last day. Finally, the doors opened and I raced out, running all the way home.

"Mom, mom! It's summer, no more school!" I yelled as I burst through the front door.
"I can see that," she laughed. "Do you have any fun plans for the summer?"
Did I ever! I had been thinking about summer vacation for weeks. "I want to go camping and fishing. And have a lemonade stand. Oh, and can we go to the waterpark? Please mom, please?"
She smiled at my enthusiasm. "We'll see what we can do. Why don't you make a list of all the things you want to do this summer?"
A list, what a great idea! I grabbed some paper and markers and got to work. When I was done, my list had everything from "go to the beach" to "learn how to juggle." I could hardly wait to get started.
The very next day, we packed up the car and headed out for a camping trip. Dad set up the tent while mom got the fire going for smores. We toasted marshmallows and told ghost stories long into the night. I didn't sleep a wink, I was having too much fun!
When we got home, it was time to open my lemonade stand. I mixed up a huge pitcher of lemonade and set up a little table and chair out front. It was a hot day, so people were thirsty. I yelled "Lemonade, get your lemonade here!" as loud as I could. Before long, I had a line of customers.
"One quarter for a small, two quarters for a large," I said importantly when the first person reached the front. It was our neighbor Mr. Jenkins.
He chuckled. "Why, don't you sound like a professional lemonade salesperson. I'll take a large then." He dropped some coins in my hand and I beamed with pride as I poured him a large cup.
Business was booming all day. I had to call mom a few times to make more lemonade. By the time the sun went down, I had made five whole dollars! I couldn't wait to count it all out and put it in my piggy bank.
The next week, we went to the big waterpark in the city. I spent the whole day going on t
he water slides and swimming in the wave pool until my skin was all pruney. It was the best day ever!
One hot afternoon, I decided to set up a car wash in the driveway to make some more money. I filled up buckets with soapy water and borrowed the hose. Then I made a big sign that said "Car Wash - 2" and waited for customers.
It took awhile, but finally a few cars started pulling in. I worked hard, scrubbing every inch until the cars gleamed. It was a lot of work, but I loved getting paid to do it. By the end of the day, my arms were sore, but I had eleven dollars to my name!
As the weeks passed, I went fishing with Dad and caught my first fish all by myself (though Dad had to get it off the hook for me). We had a huge picnic in the park with all my aunts, uncles, and cousins one weekend. And I spent hours in the sprinklers in the backyard, cooling off from the hot summer sun.
There was just one last big thing on my list – learn to juggle. I had seen people juggling a
t the circus, tossing balls up in the air in a rhythmic pattern. It looked so cool! So I gathered up some old tennis balls and started practicing in the backyard.
It was a lot harder than it looked. The balls kept dropping to the ground almost immediately. But I didn't give up. Day after day, I picked those balls back up and tried again. Little by little, I was able to keep them in the air for longer and longer.
Finally, on the very last day of summer, I had a breakthrough. "Mom, mom, watch this!" I called excitedly. I tossed the three tennis balls up one by one, then kept them circling rhythmically through the air. I did it, I was juggling!
She clapped and cheered. "That's wonderful! You really practiced hard, didn't you?"
I grinned from ear to ear. "Yep, all summer long. This was the best summer ever!"
Eventually, the tennis balls came tumbling down again. But it didn't matter. I had achieved my goal, just in time for school to start back up. What an awesome way to spend the summer!
