    My Summer Vacation Adventure!
    Yay, summer vacation was finally here! No more waking up super early or doing piles of homework. Just fun, fun, fun for two whole months! I couldn't wait to tell you all about the awesome adventure I had this summer.
    It all started when my parents surprised me and my little brother Charlie by saying we were going on a big road trip across the country! We've never taken a long car ride like that before. Mom and Dad loaded up our minivan with lots of snacks, games, and pillows to make the drive more fun.
    Our first stop was the Grand Canyon in Arizona. When we pulled up and I saw that huge,
wide canyon for the first time my mouth dropped open. "Whooooaaaaa!" I said out loud. We went on a little hike along the rim trail and I pretended I was a brave explorer just like in the movies. The canyon seemed to go on forever and ever into the distance. It was so deep down that I got a bit dizzy looking over the edge!
    After leaving the Grand Canyon, we drove to Las Vegas. I couldn't believe all the bright lights and huge hotels everywhere we looked. It was like a city out of a futuristic sci-fi movie! We didn't get to go into any of the casinos since we're just kids, but Dad took us to see the big fountains at the Bellagio that danced to music and light shows. So cool!
    Our next stop was Los Angeles to visit my aunt, uncle, and cousin. While there we went to the beach at Santa Monica and I got to dip my toes in the Pacific Ocean for the first time. The water was freezing but I loved chasing the little wave crashers up the shore. We also visited Hollywood and I got to semi-see a few famous actors' homes from the tour van (but

    Unit 5 Sample Essay: My Summer Vacation Adventure
    Summer vacation is the best time of year! No school, no homework, just fun in the sun. This summer, I had the craziest adventure ever. Let me tell you all about it!
    It started on the first week of summer break. My parents said we were going on a trip, but they wouldn't tell me where. "It's a surprise!" they said with a big smile. I could hardly wait to find out.
    Finally, the day came and we hopped in the car bright and early. After driving for what felt like forever, we pulled up to the airport! I had never been on a plane before, so I was super excited and also a little nervous.
    The plane ride was really cool. I got to look out the window at the tiny houses and cars down below. The snacks weren't bad either! After several hours, the pilot said we were making our Hawaii! I had always dreamed of going to Hawaii with its beautiful beaches, palm trees, and warm ocean water. This was going to be so awesome!
    When we arrived at our hotel, I couldn't believe how pretty it was. There were fancy wate
rfalls, pools, restaurants, and even a lazy river you could float down. Our room had a big balcony with a view of the bright blue ocean. That first night, we walked along the beach and stuck our toes in the nice warm sand. I was in paradise!
    Over the next few days, we did so many fun activities. We went snorkeling and saw cool fish and coral up close. We hiked through a jungle to get to a waterfall where we could swim. We even took a boat tour around the whole island. But my favorite was just relaxing on the beach, splashing in the waves, and building sandcastles. Life doesn't get better than that!
    One day, the hotel workers said there was going to be a big luau that night. A luau is a Hawaiian party with food, music, and dances telling stories. I couldn't wait to see it! That evening, we walked over to an outdoor area filled with tables, each one having a whole roasted pig as the main course. There was also tons of other yummy island dishes to try.
    After dinner, the show started with dancers in colorful grass skirts and floral leis. They did hula dances telling tales of ancient Hawaii, like how fire was discovered and how animals fi
rst came to the islands. It was so cool to watch! The show ended with an incredible fire dance where the performers twirled bandanas made of fire. I had never seen anything like it before. What an amazing experience!
    Sadly, our trip to Hawaii had to come to an end after a week of fun in the sun. I was definitely sad to leave behind the beaches, pools, and pretty scenery. But I had so many wonderful memories that I would never forget. Plus, my parents promised we could go back to Hawaii again someday!tablet5
    On the long plane ride back home, I looked through all the photos and videos from our trip. I couldn't wait to see my friends again so I could tell them every little detail about my incredible Hawaiian vacation. All the tasty food, fascinating dances, it was a summer I would always remember. Hawaiian adventures like this are what summer dreams are made of!
