    Hi friends!
    It's me again, your buddy from class 1A. Can you believe the Spring Festival is almost here? It feels like just yesterday we were complaining about having to go back to school after the summer break. Time really flies!
    The Spring Festival is my favorite time of the year. I love all the decorations, the delicious food, and most of all, the chance to spend quality time with family and friends. My parents always make such a big deal out of it. We clean the entire house from top to bottom to welcome the new year fresh. Mom goes all out cooking amazing dishes like dumplings, noodles, fish, and those addictive little niangao sticky rice cakes. And of course, we have to hang up the requisite red lanterns, spring couplets, and papercuts.
    One of my favorite traditions is getting hung over with new year's money in those vivid red envelopes from the adults. I'm definitely too old to be receiving them now, but I still beg my grandparents for them every year! I also love watching the incredible CCTV Spring Festival Gala on New Year's Eve with my whole family. We play games, eat sunflower seeds, and the parents inevitably complain about how cheesy and low-brow the skits are. But I think it's all part of the fun!
    Last year, my parents promised that if I got good grades, they'd take me and a few friends to spend the holidays at a nice hotel and see the city lights and decorations. Well, I worked my butt off and managed to make the honor roll last semester. So you know what ad trip!
    This year, I want to invite a few of my closest classmates to join my family for a mini-vacation in Beijing to celebrate the Spring Festival. We'd stay in a fancy hotel, see all the cool light shows and events, and of course stuff our faces with as many holiday snacks as possible. My treat!

    An Invitation to Celebrate the Spring Festival with Me!
    Hey guys! This is your buddy Jack writing to you all. Can you believe the Spring Festival is just around the corner? It's the most exciting time of the year for us Chinese kids! I can't wait to share all the fun and traditions with you.
    First up, let me give you a quick rundown of what the Spring Festival is all about. It's the biggest and most important celebration in Chinese culture, marking the start of a new year on the lunar calendar. Families get together, feast on delicious foods, exchange gifts, and wish each other good luck and prosperity for the coming year. It's a time of great joy and reunion!
    One of the coolest things about the Spring Festival is all the amazing decorations everywhere. My mom goes all out, hanging up red lanterns, putting up papel picado banner
s with messages of good fortune written on them, and sticking upside-down fu symbols on our doors and windows. She says the upside-down fu means happiness is arriving! We even get a kumquat tree that's supposed to bring us luck. The whole house looks and smells so festive.
    Then there's h man, you guys are going to love the food! On New Year's Eve, we have a huge reunion dinner with extra-special dishes. There's always a big fish because the Chinese word for it sounds like the word for "surplus" - so it symbolizes having more than enough every year. My grandma makes the most mouthwatering dumplings stuffed with pork and veggies. And we can't forget the nian gao, which is a sticky sweet rice cake. I could go on and on about all the yummy dishes!
    After our big feast, the real fun begins with firecrackers and fireworks! We light a bunch of small firecrackers to scare away any evil spirits and clear the way for incoming good luck. Then around midnight, incredible fireworks shows start lighting up the sky everywhere you look. The colors, sounds and energy get me so pumped up to kick off the new year on a high note.
    The next morning, we kids get to receive lai see - red envelopes stuffed with cash from our parents and grandparents. It's considered lucky money to start our new year off right. I always feel like a million bucks after collecting my lai see! We're also supposed to dress up in our newest, nicest clothes from head to toe on New Year's Day.
    For the next two weeks, it's just total festivity mode. We visit with all our relatives, friends and neighbors. Every house has snacks and candies to give out, and people are always saying "Gong Xi Fa Cai" to wish prosperity. My favorite part is collecting hung bao - lucky miniature tree ornaments made of chocolate! I stuff myself silly with sweets that time of year.
    On the 15th day of the new year, weclose out the Spring Festival celebrations by eating yuan xiao - these delicious sweet rice dumplings filled with different types of sugary goodness. We light some last firecrackers, and then it's back to but with a ton of amazing memories to look back on!
