    Welcome to Kunming, the City of Eternal Spring!
    My name is Xiaoming and I'm 10 years old. I was born in Kunming, the amazing capital city of Yunnan Province in southwest China. Kunming is famous for its wonderful spring-like weather all year round. I can't wait to tell you all about my beautiful hometown!
    First of all, let me tell you about the scenery in Kunming. We have the most gorgeous lakes, parks and gardens that you'll ever see! Cuihu Park is right in the middle of the city. It has a huge lake with an island in the middle that you can take a little boat over to. Feeding the swans and ducks at Cuihu is one of my favorite things to do. There are also lovely flower gardens, walking paths, and places to fly kites or have picnics.
    Another amazing place is Dianchi Lake, a gigantic fresh water lake on the edge of the city. The sunrises and sunsets over Dianchi are just breathtaking. You can rent a bicycle or take a tour bus all the way around the lake and stop at temples, parks, or restaurants along the way. I love getting jianbing (a kind of crispy crepe) from one of the street food vendors for a snack.
    Green Lake Park is another peaceful oasis right inside the city. With its willow trees, gardens, and moon bridge over the lake, it's the perfect place to spend a relaxing afternoon. My grandparents like to practice tai chi or play mahjong there. You can also take a paddle boat out on the water if you want.
    If you enjoy hiking, you'll definitely want to check out the Western Hills on the edge of Kunming. This area of karst hills and forests feels like it's miles away from the city, even though it's not that far at all. I always feel like I'm breathing the freshest air when I'm up there. The Huating Temple tucked away in the hills is one of the most famous Buddhist sites in Kunming.

    Speaking of temples, Kunming has a ton of them! One of my favorites is Yuantong Temple, which dates back over 1,200 years to the Tang Dynasty. The bright red walls, golden Buddha statues, and huge memorial archways are so beautiful and grand. During big holidays, the whole area is decorated with bright lanterns. It's breathtaking at night!
    For a break from sightseeing, you can check out some of Kunming's busy markets and shopping streets. Jinma Fang is an outdoor market where you can buy fresh produce, spices, street food—pretty much anything! The smells of frying meat and exotic fruits always make my mouth water when I walk through. My mom loves going there to buy ingredients for her cooking.
    If you want to shop for clothes, souvenirs or snacks, Huancheng Road is one long shopping street in the old city center. You can totally get lost wandering through the little alleyways full of shops and restaurants. I always beg my parents for extra spending money whenever we go there! The night markets that pop up are lots of fun too.
    No visit to Kunming is complete without sampling some of the delicious local cuisine. Bei
ng from the Yunnan Province, our food has a lot of distinct flavors, with influences from different minority groups. One of my absolute favorite dishes is Across the Bridge Noodles—a big bowl of broth, rice noodles, veggies and meat. The toppings can get pretty wild, with everything from chicken to fresh herbs to fried cheese! Every restaurant puts their own spin on it.
    Another iconic Kunming dish is steamed pot chicken, which is exactly what it sounds like—a whole chicken steamed in a pot of chicken broth with mushrooms and spices. It's so tender and juicy! For a snack, I love tucking into a plate of crispy fried goat cheese or a warm, puffy cuye'r bing with condensed milk inside.
    As you can probably tell, we take food very seriously in Kunming! Our fresh ingredients, diverse culinary traditions, and unique flavors make Kunming a delicious destination for any foodie.
    In addition to all the sights and foods, Kunming is also known for its vibrant culture and arts scene. Throughout the year there are festivals and events celebrating the different eth
nic minorities of Yunnan, like the Dai Water-Splashing Festival in the spring. You can see amazing dance performances, listen to traditional music, and learn all about the customs and dress of these groups.
    Speaking of traditional dress, I love going to the Kunming Cultural Village, an area set up like an ethnic minority village. You can watch people demonstrating everything from weaving to pottery-making while wearing the bright, colorful garments of their culture. And at the end you can buy some of the crafts and clothing pieces as souvenirs. I have a yu'nnv outfit (the traditional dress of Yunnan women) that I love wearing for special occasions.
    So as you can see, Kunming really does have a little bit of everything—beautiful nature, fascinating history, delightful cuisine, and rich cultural traditions. We may not be as big and bustling as cities like Beijing and Shanghai, but Kunming's relaxed atmosphere and stunning scenery are what make it such a special place.
    I hope you'll plan a trip to my hometown sometime soon! Exploring the parks, sampling the food, and experiencing all of Kunming's charms is something I know you'll never forget.
