    What is Your Favorite Season?
Hi there! My name is Emma and I'm a 5th grader. Our teacher, Mrs. Roberts, recently asked us to write about our favorite season of the year. I thought it would be an easy assignment, but the more I started thinking about it, the harder it became! You see, I really love all four seasons for different reasons. Let me tell you why I enjoy each one.
First up, let's talk about spring. Spring is when everything starts coming alive again after the cold, dreary winter. The trees grow new bright green leaves, the flowers poke up out of the ground in beautiful colors, and baby animals are born. It's like the whole world is being reborn! One of my favorite things is seeing the birds come back from their winter vacations down south. I love watching them flit from tree to tree, chirping happily as they build their nes
ts.
Springtime also means lots of fun activities. When the weather gets warm enough, my friends and I can go outside and play games like jump rope, hopscotch, and tag. We have big Easter egg hunts in the backyard. And of course, no spring is complete without the quintessential activity - spring cleaning! I actually kind of enjoy helping my mom clean out closets, dust every nook and cranny, and wash all the windows to let that fresh spring sunshine in.
However, spring can also be unpredictable with its rainy days and temperature swings. I remember one year we even got a freak late snowstorm in April! Those types of days make me look forward to summer's arrival instead. Ah summer, the season of freedom for kids! No more teachers, no more books, as the old song goes. Summer means staying up late, sleeping in, and spending lots of time outside.
My favorite summer activity is definitely going to the beach or the pool. I love feeling the warm sun on my skin as I splash around in the cool water. Building sandcastles, burying m
y brother in the sand, and hunting for seashells are also high on my list. Summer is the best time for camping, bonfires, and toasting s'mores. And who can forget the quintessential summer activities of lemonade stands, water balloon fights, and running through sprinklers?
The hot summer days do have one downside though - lots of bored time stuck inside with my annoying little brother! He always wants to hang out with me and my friends. "Mom, Jacob's bothering us again!" is something I find myself whining at least once a day. By the end of summer, I'm actually looking forward to going back to school just to get a break from him!
Which brings me to fall, another spectacularly beautiful season. The leaves turn into a vibrant kaleidoscope of red, yellow, and orange hues. The cool, crisp air smells divine, like cinnamon and apples. Fall is the season of holidays like Halloween, where I get to dress up and go trick-or-treating. I love carving pumpkins into silly or spooky faces. Thanksgiving is another fall favorite, getting to stuff myself with turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie. Yum!

Fall does require some work though, like raking up all those pretty fallen leaves. It's tiring, but I actually don't mind too much. I love jumping and kicking through the huge leaf piles after I've raked them up. Taking crisp autumn nature walks while the leaves crunch beneath my feet is also something I cherish about fall. Before I know it though, fall's colors fade and winter arrives.
Some people dread winter, but I don't mind it that much (as long as there isn't too much snow to shovel!). There's a crisp, clean feel to the winter air that I find refreshing. Everything looks so bright and pretty after a fresh snowfall blankets the landscape. Getting all bundled up in cozy sweaters, hats, and mittens is oddly enjoyable. Let's not forget that winter also means Christmas vacation from school and celebrating the holidays!
Winter definitely has its fun moments, like going sledding, having snowball fights, and making snow angels. I love waking up and looking outside to see if enough snow fell overnight for a cancellation - a glorious "snow day!" However, I do get cabin fever if I'm cooped up inside too long during winter's harsh, icy days. By February, I'm definitely ready for winter's end and spring
