摘要：PURPOSE:To recognize a character string, which cannot be semantically judged, of a word, a context, etc., by finding the largest blank part in an applicable image and finding the slit position of characters based on its size. CONSTITUTION:The input character string of a quantized two-dimensional image is stored in a memory 1. A character string deciding part 2 reads successively the character string from the memory 1 based on a character dictionary and a word dictionary and outputs the reading result. Concerning candidates decided by the character string deciding part 2 and obtained, the number of the candidates is checked by a character string candidates number checking part 3 and when the candidate is one, a processing is completed. When they are plural, a part image equivalent to a place about which the decision is ambiguous is removed and its size is measured by a blank position size measuring part 4. A slit-of-characters assuming part 5 compares and decides the blanks of the respective candidates based on the largest blank.
